  DISTRICT COMPREHENSIVE EYECARE PROGRAMME (DCECP)
This programme was introduced after the situational analysis in 1999 revealed that the ophthalmology departments of most of the DHQ Hospitals of Punjab were in very pathetic condition, all of them were lacking in quality equipment & that the surgical rate per year especially in cataract was far below than the required international standards set by WHO. The programme has been launched with the help of international NGO’s like Fred Hollows Foundation (Australia), & Sight Savers International (UK) & Chritofelblinden Mission (Germany). This programme comprises following components:
1. Physical upgradation of Eye Departments of DHQ Hospitals:
2. Provision of latest equipment
3. Celebration of eye week
4. Refresher Course/ Training of District Ophthalmologist
5. Training of LHW & other PHC workers in Primary Eye Care
